Regina City Police seized 500 grams of fentanyl in a bust last Thursday. To give some perspective, according to information posted by the DEA, two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dosage in most people. There would be 250 thousand -two milligram doses in 500 grams of fenantyl.
The search warrant was executed in the 500 block of Lorne Street North and in addition to the fentanyl police seized $21,000 in currency, a small amount of cocaine, multiple cell phones and digital scales.
24 year old Lazarus Teny and 24 year old Akol Paul Ture, both of Calgary are facing a laundry list of charges including trafficking, possession of everything from narcotics to proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Between January 1st and May 1st, Regina Police dealt with 208 overdoses, 11 confirmed deaths and 9 unconfirmed deaths.
According to Jason Mercredi, Executive Director of AIDS Saskatoon, Medavie Health Services responded to 262 overdose calls in May which is 20 more than Edmonton and Edmonton has three times Saskatoon’s population.
