The Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP doesn’t believe the provincial budget includes a recovery plan from the pandemic deficit that puts people first.
Ryan Meili says there is no money for safely reopening and bringing in resources for schools taking into consideration the pandemic, per-student funding is less, and there is nothing for childcare and nothing for seniors.
He calls it the worst economic downturn that any of us has lived through with the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and the enormous impact that has on the lives of Saskatchewan people.
He adds there is no forecast in the budget beyond next March which would usually be included, and there is no acknowledgement of what next year’s deficit will be.
The NDP is asking for the government to implement a minimum wage of $15 per hour and to try and hire more local companies and workers for infrastructure projects. (CKRM)
