Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer says although there were 18 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the province, it’s not too early to begin Phase 4 of the re-opening on Monday.
Dr. Saqib Shahab explains that overall, Saskatchewan’s infection rate remains low.
Phase 4.1 includes opening the way for child and youth day camps, outdoor pools and splash pads and outdoor sports and activities.
Also effective Monday, indoor gatherings of up to 30 are permitted, but only if there is enough space for physical distancing.
The number of people at an outdoor gathering remains at 30, and still with physical distancing guidelines.
Premier Scott Moe adds that Saskatchewan has kept its infection rate 78 per cent below Canada’s rate and fatality rates are 95 per cent below.
Moe says the majority of the new cases on Monday were from a funeral and wake on the Clearwater River Dene Nation.
The government is providing support to the Dene Nation and to La Loche.
The Dene Nation has also implemented an 11 p.m. curfew and is restricting non-essential travel to the community.
Moe cautions that we must remain vigilant because case numbers are rising in many parts of the world, including several states in the U.S.
To date, there have been 684 cases in Saskatchewan with 631 recoveries.
