It was a dramatic move that aided in saving a person from harming themselves last night. Saskatoon Fire and Police were on scene at the Circle Drive West overpass which crosses Idylwyld Drive North, around 8 p.m., where an individual was outside security fencing expressing the intent to jump.
As firefighters cut the security fencing so they could get access, and started putting an aerial ladder truck in place, the Saskatoon Fire Department says this person advanced from the edge of the overpass and the battalion chief shot his arm through the cut fencing grabbing the person to stop them from going over the edge. Police officers and the battalion chief held on until the ladder truck could make the rescue.
The battalion chief went to hospital with what are described as minor injuries mainly from cuts from the fencing. The person who was rescued was taken into custody by police and then to hospital by ambulance.
