Saskatchewan’s Education Minister has released the new guidelines for how schools can return to as normal as possible in the fall.
Gordon Wyant lists the promotion of hygiene in schools, trying to physically distance as much as possible, encouraging activities that don’t include contact and modifying the procedures for entering and exiting the building.
Masks will not be mandatory.
The idea is to be as safe as possible while trying to maintain some normalcy.
Wyant says it’s not practical to try to enforce physical distancing on younger children, so the focus will be on finding ways to minimize contact.
It’s up to the school divisions to come up with clear protocols for bringing in and taking out items like bags and school supplies.
The Minister also says it’s not practical to bring in more school busses, so instead students will have assigned seating.
He encourages parents to drop their children off if they can.
None of this is written in stone, Wyant says, there will be changes as discussions continue on these guidelines.
