A new report heading to a city committee today will ask city councilors to consider speeding up the process to replace 3,500 sidewalk corners that are ramp-less in the city. At the current rate, the 3,500 street corners will be replaced over a period of 47 years at a cost of over $11 million dollars. If the committee elects to add $350 thousand dollars a year in base funding, the timeline could be reduced to 17 years. By the end of the year, it’s expected the city would have installed 639 accessible ramps at a cost of $1.7 million dollars since 2017. Today’s (mon) transportation meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at City Hall.
