You could see parking patios in front of businesses this winter.
It was one of the proposals to City Council to help business owners in the Business Improvement Districts to utilize more space because of physical distancing and to recoup some costs.
Tourism Saskatoon and the Broadway Improvement District both advocated for a few changes related to parking patios which were approved by Council at Monday’s meeting.
Broadway BID executive Director, DeeAnn Mercier, says having the spaces utilized year round will bring more opportunity to businesses and it adds to the city’s efforts around being a winter city.
Also, parking patio fees will be waived this year and next and current permit holders fees will be adjusted to reflect the discount and Council approved adding 2 more parking spaces per block face to be used by businesses, as opposed to the current 4.
Administration still needs to review the approvals to see if there are any amendments need to bylaws or regulations.
