Saskatchewan’s Minister of Highways says there is a lot of construction work on Saskatchewan roadways right now and for Canada Day, as well as the busy summer holiday season, so they just want to remind motorists about the importance of slowing down to the recommended speed limit.
Greg Ottenbreit says there have been instances in the past where there have been injuries, or tragically a fatality of roadside workers, and fines for speeding in highway construction zones are specifically quite stiff to deter further tragedy.
Ottenbreit points to the Highway Hotline which lists where construction is taking place. He says if you want to avoid construction you can head out on the road armed with knowledge of where it is occurring.
Although the Minister does note there is a lot of construction this year after they launched construction season with a $358 million budget which was then augmented by $300 million thanks to the province’s stimulus package.
