Over 100 bridges in Rural Municipalities across the province will be replaced in the next four years.
The Government of Saskatchewan is teaming up with the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities to improve the bridges, through federal and provincial funding worth $31.5 million.
SARM President Ray Orb says there are about 1,475 bridges in rural Saskatchewan, many that were built in the 60s and 70s and are at a point where the bridge needs to be replaced. Orb says this funding announcement will go towards addressing the current infrastructure challenge.
Some of the rural bridge projects are currently going through the approval process at the federal level, with the hope of beginning work this construction season. Another intake for additional RM bridge projects is currently open with applications being taken through the SARM website until July 19th.
Projects will be cost share up to $500,000 with about 17% coming from federal funding, the other 33% from the provincial government, and the remainder from the RM involved.
