The SaskParty won’t be selling off Crown Corporations and won’t be making cuts.
That’s the promise from Premier Scott Moe over concerns from the NDP that these 2 items may be part of a hidden agenda. Premier Moe understands there is uncertainty in the economy everywhere because of the pandemic, but he believes Saskatchewan is in a strong position with the needed resources to supply the world once the economy begins to recover.
He says the province is in a budget deficit of $2.4-billion this fiscal year and he expects there will still be a deficit next year, although a smaller one. Moe adds that comparatively, Saskatchewan is in good shape. He says Alberta is looking at a potential deficit of 15 to 20-billion dollars, which per capita would put Saskatchewan at 9 to 10-billion dollars.
On the final day of the spring session of the Legislature the Premier acknowledged and thanked MLAs would would be stepping down and won’t be running in the next election.
One of the MLAs that is stepping down and won’t be running in the next election, Greg Brkich from the Arm River constituency, used the words “All Lives Matter” as he said some final words in the legislature on Friday.
The Premier was later asked if he felt that was appropriate. Scott Moe says they shouldn’t have been voiced in the legislature or by an individual and they are not the words of the Saskatchewan Party. That’s because of heightened awareness about systemic racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. Brkich is among 11 MLAs who won’t be running in the October provincial election.
