First Nations, Inuit and Metis people and the federal government have signed an agreement giving more jurisdiction over child and family services to Indigenous Canadians
National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Perry Bellegarde says the agreement on Bill C-92 will make a difference for children who are in care.
He says one of the most important aspects to the bill is that First Nations law is paramount. Bellegarde says he always told people that they have to create their own laws and jurisdictions and he says, this is what Bill C-92 is about.
Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller says this is about the inherent rights of First Nations people to have control over the education of their own children.
