There are sporadic cases of COVID-19 in the north, around the Prince Albert area, with no links to any other known case, which means there is ongoing transmission in the community.
That’s according to Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab who believes there is a lack of testing in the area, even though the capacity is there to get it done.
He stresses it’s important to get tested because it’s the only proven way to break the chain of transmission.
It was also reported on Tuesday that a 15th person has died related to COVID-19.
The person was in their 20s and from the north region.
So far, there have been 5 deaths in the 70s age range, 4 in their 80s and 4 in their 60s, 1 in their 50s and now 1 in their 20s.
Dr. Shahab couldn’t confirm if there were any underlying health issues for the latest death, but says among the 15 deaths, there were other health issues like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, immune compromised, obesity, lung disease and impaired liver function.
