Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer says communities and businesses shouldn’t be stigmatized if they are named as part of a cluster or outbreak of COVID-19. Dr. Saqib Shahab explains that as more and more businesses and services open up and people are getting out more, we are going to see cases pop up like this across the province because no one is immune to this virus. Just because a business is the subject of a public service announcement, Shahab says, doesn’t mean it’s unsafe.
Once a case or a series of cases of the virus is confirmed, it’s a matter of vigorous contact tracing, but Shahab adds that if people don’t get tested, we lose the ability to keep the virus under control. That’s why the Saskatchewan Health Authority has been urging Prince Albert and area residents to get tested if they have any symptoms. There have been 6 cases in the area over the last week or so.
If you plan to camp in the Prince Albert area including the surrounding lakes, Shahab says you can still go, but make sure to follow all the safety protocols. If you are camping, visitors are asked to bring their own hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes and respect the restrictions in place.
