Two teenagers were arrested and face charges following a Monday morning robbery of a taxi driver in Saskatoon.
At about 8-50 a.m., a taxi driver sent a distress signal to Saskatoon Police from the intersection of Avenue N South and Appleby Drive. When officers arrived, the driver told them a male and a female passenger broke through the plexi glass partition of the cab, assaulted him and stole items from inside the vehicle before fleeing on foot. With the help of a canine team, as well as information from neighbours and other people nearby, police were able to find and apprehend the pair. They were found to be in possession of several stolen items so the 19-year-old male and 16-year-old female are both charged with robbery. The young woman, who had a knife with her, also faces charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of probation. The male taxi driver suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
