The COVID-19 pandemic brought many job losses and layoffs to the province, however, Saskatoon based tech company, Vendasta, is changing the conversation, by announcing a hiring blitz to add 100 new jobs to the Saskatchewan economy.
Vendasta made the announcement Thursday morning, with CEO Brendan King saying Vendasta was able to shift the way they did business during the pandemic by providing e-commerce, remote learning and online tools to businesses, free of charge and paying for them when they could. King says this was received well, as June was their best month to date and allowing them to invest in jobs. King explains 100 new jobs will be added to their already 400 person team. Vendasta aims to build their team to 650 by the end of 2021.
Mayor Charlie Clark, attended the announcement and says we have been so focused on the survival of COVID-19 the last while, it is really important we look beyond the next few months, and plan for how Saskatoon and Saskatchewan can come out of this, really strong. Clark says Saskatoon is the heart of a growing tech hub he calls the “Silicon Prairie” and he says it is important companies like Vendasta can grow here successfully.
MLA for Churchill-Wildwood Lisa Lambert and Saskatoon West MP Brad Redekopp were also in attendance during the announcement.
