This year, STARS Air Ambulance had to cancel or postpone many of their fundraising events due to COVID-19 but their 3rd annual Field of Stars will move ahead online, and on the airwaves.
Kimberley Kroll-Goodwin, Manager of Events and Community Engagement says STARS flies on average 8 missions a day between 3 provinces and have flown 884 missions in Saskatchewan this year. She adds STARS fundraises about $10.5 million annually, to keep flying in the prairies.
Kroll-Goodwin says the previous 2 years, Field of Stars raised close to a million dollars in support. The first part of this year’s fundraiser will include an online Ritchie Brothers auction that will see items begin to close at 1 pm on Tuesday. The second part will happen later that evening, with an online concert and show that will be broadcast live on CJWW and The Bull, and will feature country music stars the Washboard Union.
Kroll-Goodwin says the broadcast will also include a look at the STARS dispatch centre and stories from people who have been helped by STARS. That show will begin at 7:30.
