The General Manager of Persephone Theatre says the decision has been made to cancel the 2020-21 season. Kristen Dion says they are looking at new activities that could serve the community instead.
She explains on Persephone’s website that season budgets are based on strong attendance numbers, so because of physical distancing, they can’t present the shows that were planned. Dion adds that if there is an opportunity before June of next year to reopen safely, they will do so but it may be with different activities.
Given, the financial impact of COVID-19 over such a long period of time, and the recent departure of the Artistic Director, Dion expects they will be rebuilding over the next few years. The goal this season is to work on some creative projects but the plans are in their early stages and will be announced when it’s figured out how they can be safely executed.
To ensure Persephone Theatre survives the global pandemic, Dion urges subscribers to either donate their tickets for a tax receipt or defer their subscription to the 2021-22 season.
