A 37 year old Saskatoon man has been charged with this past Saturday’s death of 68 year old Richard Fernuk.
The accused was arrested Wednesday and is in court Thursday afternoon charged with First Degree Murder, Robbery and Unlawful Confinement.
August 1st Richard Fernuk was suffering chest pains after visiting friends and on August 3rd, when officers were doing a welfare check, they found Fernuk dead in his apartment in the 22 hundred block of St Charles Avenue. The pains Fernuk was experiencing last Thursday were related to an existing heart condition. He was treated in hospital that night and released. He can be seen on security video leaving the hospital just before 4:00 am Friday.
Police do not believe the victim and suspect were known to each other. This is Saskatoon’s 10th homicide in 2019.
