The Brighton area of Saskatoon could be the next location for a joint use leisure centre and high school, similar to the the Shaw Centre.
The facility would aim to be built in the Holmwood Suburban Centre, on the far east side of the city and would be a collaboration between the City, the Public School Division, Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division and the Saskatoon YMCA, who expressed interest in partnering on the initiative.
Andrew Roberts, Director, Recreation & Community Development says the goal is to optimize capital resources, while achieving greater value for the community.
In 2017 the Recreation and Parks Master Plan identified the need for an east side leisure centre within the next 10 years. In October of 2018 SPSD and GSCS advised the City they were formalizing a 10 to 20 year plan for development of new schools in the area.
The School divisions hope to have schools opened by the 2025-26 school year.
