If you see a Hutterite out and about at a Farmers’ Market or at any businesses, don’t assume they are from a colony that has had an outbreak of COVID-19.
That from Premier Scott Moe who says the majority of Saskatchewan’s Hutterite communities don’t have any cases of the virus.
He urges everyone not to stigmatize communities affected by COVID-19 and adds that there has been strong cooperation from the local leadership at the affected colonies.
Public Health officials are also visiting every colony to review the guidelines, to educate and offer testing and contact tracing.
The rise in COVID-19 numbers in Saskatchewan doesn’t mean the province is thinking about scaling back the re-opening of the economy.
Moe says most cases aren’t related to businesses being open, and there are other things that can be done.
He mentioned that mask use could be an option, saying, “For instance you’re seeing conversations all over the world around mask use and what point in time should you increase mask use in indoor settings. So there are a number of things we can do that have a much lower impact on businesses that are operating and many of the day-to-day activities.”
Moe also mentioned there will be more information next week around the opening of schools in the fall and any safety mechanisms that may be required.
