Incumbent Charlie Clark has announced he will be a mayoral candidate for Saskatoon in the fall election.
He says he is running again because he believes with the right approach the city can build on the strengths that have shone through during the pandemic – like collaboration , caring and problem solving.
Clark says his last 4 years as mayor have shown him that residents want a city with an strong economic future, and where no one is left behind.
Some of the accomplishments over the past 4 years, according to Clark, are an employment growth of 7 per cent while the province’s growth of 2 per cent and record investments in fixing roads, sidewalks, waterlines, playgrounds and pathways.
Clark will formally launch his campaign in September, but decided to make the announcement now because so many people were asking him about his election intentions. The election is November 9th.
Former SaskParty MLA Rob Norris also held a campaign event on Wednesday.
He announced putting his hat in the ring as a mayoral candidate about a month ago.
Norris says he decided to run because he was approached by fellow citizens to do so.
One of his first actions would be to figure out some saving so property taxes can be lowered because they are rising while salaries are not.
Norris adds that this is where his relationships with Ottawa and the provincial government come in.
He says, “We need to make sure we are aligned with the province. We need to make sure we are tapping into every available dollar and every available program coming out of Ottawa, and most especially we need to sharpen our pencils and find even modest savings so the citizens of Saskatoon know we’ve got their back.”
Municipal elections are November 9th.
