Since election day on October 26th will be a day off for students for safety reasons around COVID-19 with many polling stations being in schools, Elections Saskatchewan is inviting teachers and support staff to consider signing up for working the election.
Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Michael Boda, encourages anyone who wants to participate to consider becoming an election worker.
He estimates more than 13-thousand workers will be needed prior to and on election day, October 26th.
Boda says the novel coronavirus will make this a unique election for the province.
The provincial government says in an email that the Ministry of Education altered the school year calendar in response to a request from the Chief Electoral Officer to ensure voters and staff had exclusive access to schools on election day to make sure there is enough physical distancing availability.
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation confirms that teachers will not be mandated or assigned to work the election.
