Saskatchewan’s NDP official opposition says it’s time for the government to get serious about plans to reopen schools in September.
Leader Ryan Meili says the first priority for reopening during the pandemic is the safety of children, teachers and education staff.
He contends the government has failed to manage the pandemic effectively with inadequate testing and preparation within the health system, and no clear plan for going back to school.
The NDP has laid out a 7 point plan which includes an increase in testing and tracing capacity so there is no delays for students and staff, smaller class sizes, dedicated funding to help schools prepare, and planning for different scenarios depending on the number of transmissions at the time.
Meili believes that getting the schools back open is essential for the successful of the economy.
