The Government of Canada has introduced stricter rules for any Americans coming into Canada, ostensibly on their way to Alaska for what the Canada Border Services Agency refers to as a non-discretionary purpose.
United States citizens coming into Canada must do so through five border locations, all of which are in Western Canada including North Portal in Saskatchewan. And if Americans trying to gain entry to go to, as they have claimed – Alaska, go to a different point of entry other than the five specified, they will not be able to get into the country.
Americans will be limited to travelling the most direct route from where they entered the country to their destination and must avoid all national parks, leisure sites and tourism activities. And before entering into Alaska, must report to a CBSA point of entry to confirm they are leaving Canada.
American vehicles will have to display a hang tag on their rearview mirror for the duration of their trip through Canada. The tag will include the date they must depart Canada. The same rules apply to anyone going from Alaska, through Canada to the U-S.
