AIDS Saskatoon announced its name change and opening date for Saskatchewan’s first safe injection site just 3 days ago and say yesterday there were multiple overdoses in the vicinity.
One of their employees was driving to work when a person stumbled into the street so he called 9-1-1 and administered naloxone. But at the same time the Saskatoon Police Community Mobilization Unit gave their naloxone kit to someone else when responding to an overdose near the newly named Prairie Harm Reduction building.
Earlier this week Executive Director Jason Mercredi said the overdose epidemic, the crystal meth epidemic and the HIV epidemic aren’t getting better so they couldn’t wait on government.
When they did not receive needed funding in the provincial budget, Prairie Harm Reduction launched an online store to fund a Primary Care paramedic position and run the Safe Consumption Site on limited hours.
