We are still over a year away from a provincial election, but that isn’t stopping the opposition NDP from gathering the public’s thoughts on healthcare and mental health care. Health Critic Vicki Mowat and Mental Health Critic Danielle Chartier have been holding a series of meetings around the province to discuss the issues, with hopes of hearing solutions for some of the problems out there. Mowat says a common theme is access to healthcare, especially to emergency care. A recent Angus Reid survey found that only 20 per cent of respondents in Saskatchewan reported a problem with access to health care. Chartier says starting their tour now will give them a good base when it comes to developing a healthcare platform that they can take to the people when campaigning officially gets underway. The pair held their latest meeting at the University of Regina last (Thurs) night.
