To make sure Canada is ready when a COVID-19 vaccine becomes available, the federal government has signed agreements with 2 internationals companies, Pfizer and Moderna.
Procurement Minister Anita Anand says they want to diversify the vaccine supply chain, so they will work with a number of suppliers to deliver safe and effective vaccines as quickly as possible.
Earlier, the federal government also announced funding for Canadian research into a vaccine, including Saskatchewan’s VIDO-Intervac, the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization – International Vaccine Centre on the USask campus.
Anand says they are also procuring supplies of syringes, needles and alcohol swabs which will be needed for delivering the vaccine.
There is no vaccine yet, though and it will still have to go through regulatory approval.
