Minister Responsible for the WSA, Greg Ottenbreit, says it has been an unprecedented year with many areas of Northern Saskatchewan facing a record rainfall since April 1st.
That’s why the Water Security Agency is expanding the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program for the year by $2-million, from $500-thousand to $2.5-million.
The $100-thousand funding cap per applicant has also been removed for the year.
The program provides financial, technical and engineering assistance to help prevent or reduce flood damage to property.
The WSA says northern Saskatchewan is at risk because of the amount of rain and the high water levels.
The La Ronge and Air Ronge area to the Manitoba border are particularly vulnerable for the coming weeks.
