The body of a 6 year old boy who drowned in Makwa Lake on June 23rd was recovered by the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team on Wednesday afternoon.
Loon Lake RCMP say the body was found around 3, over a kilometre away from where he was last seen.
Police reported at the time that the boy had been playing on a sandbar at the southeast end of Makwa Lake, near the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation when he was pulled from the sandbar by strong currents and swept away.
Numerous groups, organizations and local community members helped in the search.
On behalf of the Saskatchewan RCMP, the Loon Lake Detachment thanks all local residents, family members, friends and organizations on the ground, air and on the lake for their dedication in the search and thoughts continue to be with the family during this tragic time.
