Saskatchewan’s Highways Minister says work is underway to reach the goal of improving 1000 kilometres of highways this year and 10,000 kilometres in 10 years.
This construction season, 445 kilometres of Thin Membrane Surface and rural highways has begun.
Some of the work is on Highway 255 south of Tobin Lake and Highway 355 west of Spruce Home.
Crushing is also underway for future upgrades on Highway 4 from the U.S. border to Grasslands National Park.
Ottenbreit says the ministry is also working with RMs to improve infrastructure.
He gives the example of the RM of Frenchman Butte, where a $5.2-million improvement project has begun.
The subgrade and surfacing of the access from the junction of Highway 3 is scheduled to be done by this fall.
