To help adapt to more virtual education in light of the pandemic, Gabriel Dumont Institute has received $50-thousand from the United Way of Saskatoon & Area for its Learning Centres in La Ronge and La Loche.
Director Lisa Bird-Wilson estimates around 275 Metis and First Nations students are served through these centres.
The funding comes from a federal government program to help equip the schools with smart technology to improve virtual learning content.
It will also mean students will have access to laptops.
Bird-Wilson says classes will be a hybrid of online and in person learning at most of their 20 Learning Centres. In some cases, they may be entirely online.
The ultimate objective, Bird Wilson says, is to be responsive to students’ needs and provide a safe environment to help them succeed in their programming.
