A lottery has been launched to raise money for pet-friendly emergency shelters in the province.
Funds raised by the Working to End Violence 50/50 Lottery will be allocated towards the goal of pet friendly emergency shelters which are not currently available in Saskatchewan.
Jo-Anne Dusel, Executive Director of PATHS, Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services of Saskatchewan, says many shelter workers are far too familiar with receiving calls from women experiencing abuse who are unwilling to leave because they can’t be sure their pets will be safe.
PATHS has partnered with the Saskatchewan SPCA and STOPS to Violence. Proceeds from the first edition of the 50/50 were used to publish Getting Out: A Process Learned from the Courage and Wisdom of Violence which can be accessed here.
