Environment Canada has upgraded the tornado in Manitoba on August 7th that claimed the lives of two teens when their truck was caught in the tornado.
Environment Canada says it has further assessed damage and information and have ruled the tornado near Virden was an EF-3 which would have had estimated wind speeds of 260 km/h. Originally it was classified as an EF2 which has wind speeds of 190 km/h.
In addition to two fatalities, another person was injured, there was large hail, two vehicles displaced, power lines and a farm were damaged, grain silos were tossed and trees snapped.
The heatwave has moved into Manitoba in addition to blanketing the other three western provinces. Monday in Saskatchewan several new hot weather records were set. The hot spot in Saskatchewan yesterday was Val Marie at 37.6 degrees. Saskatoon reached 35.5 degrees Monday and Regina’s mercury topped out at 34.4 degrees.
