The Saskatoon Police Service says 4 year old Journey Kay was located thanks to the Amber Alert system.
Superintendent Randy Huisman says it was decided around 5 this morning that they would start the process to issue an Amber Alert. He says Journey was reported missing at 9:30 Tuesday night even though she had been missing since 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The amber alert was issued at 8:30 am. and she was located at 9 a.m. at a house in the 1900 block of 20th Street.
“The woman at that address called the Saskatoon Police Service when she saw the alert to say that the girl was present in her home.”
The woman who called was also the woman in the surveillance video released by police this morning. Supt. Huisman explains why there are no criminal charges being contemplated at this time.
“We believe that the woman that left with the child, took her voluntarily, I guess. That’s all a matter that’s under investigation.”
Huisman says they are trying to determine why there was a lapse in time between Journey going missing and the police receiving a missing persons report.
He also says they are trying to identify if there is any connection between Journey Kay’s family and the woman who had the child.
