Saskatchewan employers relied less on government supports from March to June while keeping more employees’ wages whole than did other employers across Western Canada. That’s according to an HR trends report from the Chartered Professional in Human Resources Association in Saskatchewan. CEO Nicole Scott says, “In Saskatchewan about 17 per cent of our members’ organizations applied to the Federal Government wage subsidy, where the other western provinces were over 30 per cent.”
She says we were also significantly less likely to freeze salaries or reduce wages. According to Scott, some of this is industry-related, such as oil and gas in Alberta, which took a far greater hit.
HR Professionals across Western Canada feel that their organizations are prepared to meet occupational health and safety and public health guidelines for the return to work. Two in five consider their organizations to be very prepared.
