The renewal fee for Saskatoon’s legal cannabis stores may be quite a bit less than was first decided last year.
It was voted in originally that the initial licencing fee would be $20-thousand and the renewal fee would be $10-thousand.
A report from Administration at today’s Planning, Development and Community Services Committee stated that the estimated number of staff hours related to licencing the industry hasn’t been as much as was first anticipated, but the cost of enforcement still needs to be taken into consideration.
Randy Pshebylo, executive director of the Riversdale Business Improvement District spoke to the issue. He said from his conversations, he has been advised that cannabis should be treated the same as liquor stores.
The committee voted to keep the original $20-thousand initial licencing fee, but reduce the renewal fee to $500. The matter will still have to go to City Council.
