It’s time to think about our COVID-19 summer bubble and see if we need to make some changes.
That suggestion is from Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, who says we need to examine our contacts and consider new bubbles taking into consideration back to school and fall indoor activities.
Even if you don’t have a school-aged child, your extended family bubble may include children, teachers, school staff and their families.
He suggests our virtual household should be limited to 10 to 15 people.
Shahab adds that we can expect to see COVID-19 outbreaks in school, but community transmission is the best way to keep things safe, because what Public Health is seeing from other areas of the world where school is underway is that schools reflect the amount of community transmission.
Public Health has also learned that general transmission is not as efficient in younger children, so Dr. Shahab believes it will be less common that what we see when the economy reopened.
Dr. Shahab says Saskatchewan has the lowest active case rate in Western Canada at 5 cases per 100-thousand population.
The Canadian rate right now is 13 cases per 100-thousand.
