The federal government is putting over $12.4 million into two shortline railway projects in Western Saskatchewan. The federal funds will cover about half the cost of Great Sandhills Railway projects planned for Unity and Leader. CEO Perry Pellerin, says private investors will cover the rest. He says the federal funds will be put to building new track at Unity so they will be able to more efficiently load unit-trains with grain and oil and still unload other commodities. Track improvements will also happen at Leader. Pellerin says the 14 short-line railways in Saskatchewan are important for improving access to foreign markets for farm and energy products.
