Another great night of racing took place Saturday night at the Wyant Group Raceway. Here are the latest results:
Results for 8/29/2020 – Wyant Group Raceway – Saskatoon, SK
It was an interesting night of racing Saturday, to say the least. There was celebration; there was heartbreak and there was just plain nail biting hard racing at Wyant Group Raceway.
Four divisions hit the track as the season that just started slowly winds down. The Annugas Compression Canadian Super Trucks made their only stop in Saskatoon for 2020. The Earthworks Sask Legends were back as were the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stocks. The Shell V-Power Nitro Sportsman cars held their annual Race For The Cure.
12 Super Trucks made the trek to work their way to a win in the Annugas Compression 100. Dusty O Connell topped out the field in time trials, turning in a 15.472 second lap. Split into two heats, Kyle O Connell picked up the win in the first heat, with Dan Saunders taking the second heat race.
In the second round of heats, Neil Fitzgerald took the first race while Kelly Neilands took the second heat.
The 100 lap Annugas Compression Super Truck Feature race was caution filled as it seems every truck wanted to leave some souvenir fibre glass in Saskatoon. In the end it was Dusty O Connell taking home the checkered flag with brother Kyle O Connell following for second and Art Eilander in third.
11 street stocks were on hand with Ryan Fredrickson taking the win in the first heat race. Brad Wrennick picked up the second heat.
The Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock feature doubled as the Rick Fredrickson Memorial Race. It was an exciting race with the lead changing hands several times. It’s the last lap that is most important though and the first car to the line to take the checkered flag and first place trophy was the #37 street stock of Scott Kozak, picking up his first ever feature win.
Ryan Fredrickson, nephew of Rick, was second and Brad Wrennick was third.
The Earthworks Sask Legends also took to the track for a memorial race, in memory of #25 driver Hayden Hoogeveen’s mom, Erin Martin.
Once again though it was all Blake Erb as he topped the field in time trials, won Heats A and B as well as the Earthworks Sask Legends feature race. Darrell Buckingham tried right to the last lap to get around Erb, but just didn’t have the muscle. Ty Stewart picked up third in the Erin Martin memorial race.
In the main event, the Shell V-Power Nitro Sportsman division, Neil Schneider topped time trials at 15.454 seconds. Aaron Anderson picked up the win in the Heat race.
The Race for the Cure feature race started out smooth enough with Anderson pulling away from pole position, leading the first four laps before being overtaken by Chelsey Wilson. Chelsey was on fire, pulling away from the pack until caution came out in lap 31 when Boe Silljer spun out on his own.
Then tragedy hit as coming out of corner two during the caution Chelsey’s car just died. Nothing could get it going, not even attempts at push starting it. It would end Wilson’s night as the car was pushed back to her pit stall.
Shantel Kalika inherited the lead and continued in first for the next 33 laps, until Neil Schneider did a little bump and pass, taking the lead for the final 11 laps of the race.
At the checkered flag Neil Schneider took the win, with Shantel Kalika in second and Aaron Anderson in third.
