The provinces and territories are receiving $2-billion from the federal government to help make schools safe for next week’s return to classes, and on-reserve schools across the country will be sharing $112-million.
FSIN First Vice Chief Morley Watson says the funding is welcome, but he doesn’t know what Saskatchewan’s allotment will be.
Watson was asked if the provincial government has offered any funding for education, to which he replied he didn’t think so.
On-reserve education is a federal responsibility.
He adds that preparations at on-reserve schools are the same as any other schools.
There are challenges with physically distancing the desks and finding enough room.
Watson says some schools have opted for staggered days and some are continuing with home schooling.
