Saskatchewan RCMP say investigations are ongoing in accidents occurring over a deadly weekend in the province, but they do thank motorists who cooperated and provided officers with the space they need to undertake their investigations.
This past Saturday at 4:17 p.m., 10 kilometres east of Moose Jaw on Highway 1, RCMP say an SUV going north on a grid road didn’t slow down as it approached the Trans-Canada Highway and was hit by an eastbound semi. The SUV became engulfed in flames, the 77 year old driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a 28 year old man driving the semi was not hurt. No names are being released.
At 7:30 p.m., Saturday night, Battleford RCMP were called to a single vehicle crash on Highway 4 north of Cochin. The 21 year old woman who was a passenger passed away from her injuries. RCMP are still trying to find the driver who they say fled the scene wearing a red t-shirt, black pants and red shoes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Battleford Detachment.
At 8:45 Saturday night, Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to a single vehicle accident located near Kilometre-16 on Highway 135 and the SUV had seven people inside. A 28 year old woman who was a front seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle and declared deceased at the scene. Five others aged 17, 29, 30, 31 and 34 were taken to hospital while a 22 year old woman believed to be driving fled the scene but was later tracked down at the clinic in Pelican Narrows. She has been charged with impaired operation causing death.
And at 2 p.m. this past Sunday afternoon, Fort Qu’appelle RCMP responded to a single vehicle roll over on a gravel road south of Lebret known as Wide Awake Road. A 20 year old woman died at the scene, an 18 year old woman suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Regina hospital. Police believe the driver was a boy under age 16 who was also hurt, not critically, and taken to hospital.
