While announcing funding for NorSask’s sawmill in the Meadow Lake area, the Natural Resources Minister was asked for his reaction to the federal Ethics Commissioner saying the Prime Minister violated the Conflict of Interest Act when he improperly pressured the former Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould, to try to halt the criminal prosecution of SNC Lavalin. Amarjeet Sohi said the Prime Minister would speak to that, but added the federal government would continue to protect jobs, whether in the auto or aerospace sectors or any other sector.
Sohi was also asked about Saskatchewan’s Premier suggesting the federal government is funding 2 outdoor swimming pools in Regina MLA Ralph Goodale’s riding to garner votes in the next election. He responded that he finds it interesting that the province feels the present federal government has not delivered on infrastructure when they have actually given more support than any other government in the past decade or more.
He explained that in the infrastructure plan from the previous government, 99 per cent of Saskatchewan’s projects were excluded from federal funding, but that is no longer the case with close to a billion dollars for Saskatchewan through bilateral agreements.
