The Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan capital project is full steam ahead.
Organizers can do everything on their wish list as the capital project fund has topped 6-million dollars.
The Campaign is receiving about 3-million dollars in combined federal and provincial funding.
Minister of Natural Resources Amarjeet Sohi who was an actor and play writer before getting into politics was on hand at the festival site to announce 1.6 million dollars in funding from Ottawa while Deputy Premier Gordon Wyant pledged about 1.4 million from the province.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark was also among the dignitaries for the announcement and praised all government and private donors as well as festival staff and volunteers who have made the project possible.
Artistic Producer Will Brooks says once the work is done by his time next year they will be excited to receive requests from Saskatoon community groups who want to stage concerts, festivals and sporting events.
Campaign co-chair Jerry Grandey says he got involved knowing one of the goals would be removing the trailer from the festival site that blocks the view of the river.
He says they will have a fantastic venue where actors, patrons and community members can enjoy the focal point of the site which is the river.
The capital plan includes a permanent amphitheater and improvements to the Meewasin trail.
