Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer says the risk of transmission at a business or service where someone was later found to have COVID-19 is extremely low.
In the past few weeks, there have been a number of alerts from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, but Dr. Saqib Shahab says they haven’t found lots of cases connected to transmission at businesses.
Instead, transmission usually happens in close face to face contact of less than 2 metres at personal gatherings or in workplaces where physical distancing hasn’t been maintained.
Public Health continues to work with colleagues in other provinces as well as internationally to figure out where transmission is happening.
Transmission is on the rise in some provinces and other parts of the world, but so far it hasn’t happened in Saskatchewan.
Shahab says we need to understand why transmission picks up so we can be proactive with prevention in this province.
With the reopening of schools, Dr. Shahab says our job as citizens is to keep community transmission low, because that will mean low transmission in schools as well.
He suggests as we move indoors, to think about using masks in public indoor spaces.
