On Monday, a City of Saskatoon committee will consider the purchase of two properties in North Saskatoon, for a future city operations yard.
The city says this will create an opportunity for phased relocation of the downtown city yards.
Dan Willems, Director of Technical Services says creating a north district yards site creates efficiencies and cost savings for operations, such as reducing back and forth commuting from work zones, the proximity to the adjacent Liquid Waste Hauler Facility utilized by operational groups, and providing closer proximity to work areas for slower moving operational vehicles.
The report the Standing Policy Committee on Finance will consider recommends purchasing two locations in North Saskatoon.
The first is the over 20 acre, 3815 Wanuskewin Road which the report recommends due to immediate access to Chief Mistawasis Bridge and the North Commuter parkway. The cost would be $15 million.
The second is a 3 acre property about 800 metres away, on 3802 Arthur Rose Avenue, for $1.799 million.
The city says the funding plan includes Gas Tax funds, the sale of surplus City assets and borrowing.
