The City of Saskatoon’s D-E-D Response Plan crews will remove a tree infected with Dutch Elm Disease from the Montgomery Neighbourhood on Wednesday.

The single positive case of Dutch Elm Disease was confirmed by the city’s Urban Biological Services staff. In addition to removing the tree, city inspectors will follow up and attempt to find a source for D-E-D by searching stored firewood in yards located in the Montgomery, Fairhaven, Meadowgreen and South Industrial areas. Saskatoon had not had a tree test positive for Dutch Elm Disease since the summer of 2015. The City says American elm trees with Dutch Elm Disease may start showing symptoms as early in a year as the month of June, adding that leaves typically start to wilt and turn yellow…then curl and turn brown.
