In an effort to reduce speeding in Prince Albert, the City and its Police Service are kicking off a new education and enforcement initiative.
The “Slow Down Prince Albert” program will begin with education, alerting drivers of their speed as the drive by.
Mayor Greg Dionne says 24 signs have been bought through the provincial Traffic Safety Fund.
Sixteen will be permanently set up in school zones and the other eight will be moved around.
The solar powered panels display the speed of the vehicle and will tell drivers to slow down if they are speeding.
The new equipment also collects data so the traffic division can monitor the speeds – tracking how fast drivers are going and what time of day.
If the data shows drivers are continuing to speed, police will be deployed to monitor the area and issue tickets where necessary.
In addition to school zones, eight signs will be placed in each ward of the city and rotated throughout the year. The first locations are:
13th Street West (between 12th and 13th Avenue)
13th Street West (between 3rd and 4th Avenue
4th Street East (between 6th and 11th Avenue)
McIntosh Drive (2nd to 3rd Street)
15th Avenue East (Holy Cross School, Northbound)
Barton Drive (between Coombe and Eagle, eastbound)
Southwood Drive (playground)
4th Avenue West at 20th Street (northbound)
