A couple of fires Sunday kept the Saskatoon Fire Department rolling. The first was just before two o’clock in the afternoon. It was a kitchen fire in an apartment on the 900 block of Preston Avenue South. The fire was out by the time crews arrived. The occupants of the unit had already self-evacuated. One cat was removed by firefighters.
Then, just before nine Sunday night, there was a 9-1-1 call about a detached residential garage filled with smoke on the 12 hundred block of Elevator Road. It took firefighters less than 30 minutes to get the blaze under control in the oversized, double detached garage. There were no injuries. Cause and damage estimates have yet to be made in either fire.
