Fire investigators have pinned down the causes on a couple of fires on Sunday.
The first was just before two o’clock in the afternoon. It was a kitchen fire in an apartment on the 900 block of Preston Avenue South. The fire was out by the time crews arrived. The cause was unattended cooking. The Damage estimate is $5 thousand.

Just before nine last night, there was a 9-1-1 call about a detached residential garage filled with smoke on the 12 hundred block of Elevator Road. It took firefighters less than 30 minutes to get the blaze under control in the oversized, double detached garage. There were no injuries. The cause was spontaneous combustion due to the improper disposal of soiled applicators. The damage estimate is $30 thousand.
