The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will make it’s return in a re-imagined way for it’s 90th season.
Music Director and Conductor Eric Paetkau says with current regulations the SSO will be allowed 30 people on stage, which is quite the reduction from their usual 65 plus, but allows them to try out a different repertoire.
He says they have now reprogrammed the whole season and will move from TCU Place to St. John’s Cathedral to accommodate a 150 person live audience, that is already sold out.
For everyone else the performances will be live streamed . Paetkau says there will be 4 HD cameras, great audio and he suggests the experience should be pretty extraordinary.
The 90th season for the SSO will open Saturday with Postcards from Paris and will feature French Parisian music. Paetkau says with people not being able to travel the idea is to bring the world to Saskatoon.
The SSO will work with local videographer Simeon Taylor and will capture each show in 4K resolution with multiple camera angles, behind the scenes footage and interviews as bonuses for each concert.
Postcards from Paris begins Saturday at 7:30 p.m. it will feature Harry Somer’s Picasso Suite. Upcoming shows include Paris of the Prairies, which will highlight prairie composers in Canada, and other locales from across the world including the Venice.
